We all know we need to top up on our vitamin D levels, especially if we’re living in the West—but how much do we need?
Researchers at Trinity College Dublin say one size doesn’t fit all: the dose depends on our body-mass index (BMI) and age. For instance, as we get older, our body doesn’t process UVB sunlight as efficiently, and so we need higher doses, either from sunlight
or supplements.
The optimum dose needs to be tailored to our personal profile, they say.
On your next blood test, ASK for your Vitamin D level (you have to ask!!!). I am normally in the 90’s but last test was 34, I was shocked. This article must be right, now that I am in my seventies I need to supplement; just being out in the sun is not enough.
Stay Healthy,
