Plenty of Calcium in Your Diet

Search

People who have plenty of calcium in their diet are less likely to suffer from bowel cancer.

Consuming around 300mg every day from dark green leafy vegetables or milk lowers the risk of the cancer by around 17 percent, researchers from Oxford University have discovered.

It was one of the standout ingredients with the greatest protective effect, the researchers say, after they analysed 97 different nutrients in our diet and their impact on colorectal cancers among 542,778 women, 12,251 of whom developed the cancer.

Fruits, wholegrains, carbohydrates, fibre, folate and vitamin C also protected against the cancers, but to a lesser extent than calcium.
